Model-TG
Unofficial firmware additions for the Elektron Model:Cycles (OS 1.13): a full Sampler machine, resampling, beat-repeat with master FX, and more
About
Highlights
- A Sampler machine as seventh machine on any track, with seven modes: one shot, loop, slice, granular, stretch, pluck and wave
- Slicing by grid, by transients or with your own markers in a full-screen editor
- Resampling of a track, the whole output or USB audio, in mono or stereo
- Retrig page: beat repeat plus 12 master effects
- Attack, filter and resonance on the stock machines, slide trigs, Scale Lock and sample upload through Elektron Transfer
What you need
A Model:Cycles on OS 1.13 and your own stock OS file. You build it on your computer with Python 3 (see docs/BUILD.md).
Good to know
No prebuilt firmware is distributed. Back up first and read how to go back to stock. Release 1.0.0 lists the checksum your build should print, so you can verify it.
README
Model-TG
Unofficial firmware additions for the Elektron Model:Cycles (OS 1.13): a full Sampler machine, resampling, beat-repeat with master FX, and more.
Model-TG is built on your computer from your own copy of the stock OS. It patches new code into the firmware, so everything the Cycles already does keeps working.
Unofficial. Not made, supported or endorsed by Elektron. You install it at your own risk: back up first, and see going back to stock. No firmware images are distributed here or anywhere by this project. Build your own.
What it adds
- A Sampler machine, the seventh machine on any track. It plays samples from the Cycles' internal storage, a different sample per pattern, with p-lockable per-step sample locks.
- Seven playback modes: One shot, Loop, Slice, Granular, Stretch (time-stretch), Pluck (Karplus-Strong) and Wave (wavetable), each with its own options.
- Slicing: equal, by transients, or your own markers set in a full-screen slice editor. You can tap them in time, snap them to zero crossings, and set a pattern's trigs to walk the slices with one press.
- Resampling of a track, the whole output or the computer's USB audio, in mono or stereo, straight onto a track, then saved to internal storage.
- Stereo samples in every mode.
- Retrig page: beat-repeat on the tempo grid, plus 12 master FX (drive, crush, rate, pump, filter, ring mod, noise riser, gate, tape stop, vinyl, flanger).
- Attack, Filter and Resonance added to all the stock machines.
- Slide trigs: a trig that glides every differing parameter, p-locks included, from the trig before it, on any machine.
- Scale Lock, sample upload through Elektron Transfer, a System page with CPU and memory use, and lower CPU use overall.
The full, button-by-button guide is in docs/USER_GUIDE.md.
Getting it
The easiest way is the web flasher: pick your stock OS 1.13 file and it builds Model-TG right there in your browser. Your file never leaves your computer. Install the result like an official OS update.
Or build it yourself:
git clone https://github.com/TinyGregAudio/Model-TG
cd Model-TG
python3 build.py --stock path/to/model-cycles_OS1.13.syxThen install Model-TG.syx like an official OS update. The tools you need,
and how to go back to stock, are in docs/BUILD.md.
Contributing
Pull requests for new behaviour are welcome. See CONTRIBUTING.md to get started, and docs/INTERNALS.md for how the firmware is patched and what is already known about it.

What's New
First release of Model-TG: unofficial additions for the Elektron Model:Cycles (OS 1.13).
Build it from your own stock OS, as described in docs/BUILD.md:
python3 build.py --stock path/to/model-cycles_OS1.13.syx
MAIN OS sha256 (your build, or any third-party build of this release, should print exactly this):

No firmware or binaries are attached: they would contain Elektron's code. See the user guide for what it does.
Discussion
From the forum. Replies you write here are posted in the thread.(Yesterday, 08:40 PM)TR808 Wrote: No big deal but I did encounter my first crash using this. When I was messing about with the fx when I turned up the flanger it caused the cycles to hang. I had every fx running on it and the flanger was the last one I turned up. I suspect it was just a bit too much at once! Still no complaints from me, it's turned the cycles into a much more useable machine than it has ever been.
The guy did say you’ve got to keep your eye on the CPU use, it’s easy to overdo it as cycles is now running on the edge of the CPU’s capabilities

The Model Samples can have the Model Cycles firmware installed on it using the various methods and you can then install the mods supplied.
Not the first poster but I'd love to keep M:S as the base unit. It's the unpopular stepchild but imo it has a lot to offer, even with TG's amazing sampler. That and the fact that I have a full live set of music backed up Id rather not redo. Might just buy a second unit for the mods.
There are subtle musical things in the M:S firmware that the TG firmware doesn't quite nail imo, automation of the loop and reverse functions, sample preview (biggest missing thing), weird tricks like assigning pressure to sample start, messing with end points without triggering a reverse, etc. the smooth lp/hp transition of the filter is missing too.
It's really small stuff and I'm amazed at the new modes, attack parameter, stereo, resampling, etc. Not dissing the TG firmware in any way it is truly amazing, but a sampler is really hard to nail as an instrument and M:S is that for me.
It seems that somehow loading up the Cycles machines on the M:S would be even more seamless as they are pretty self contained. or if someone could patch in the exact sampling engine from M:S to M:C we'd benefit from the tight UI/UX optimization that the team at Elektron worked hard on. And it could grow from there.
